The short version
- Kinify collects no data. No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party code.
- Everything you add stays on your iPhone. The app works offline.
- If you turn on iCloud backup or family sharing, your data goes to your own iCloud, run by Apple. We cannot see it.
- The only personal data we ever hold is an email you choose to send us.
1. Who we are
Kinify is made by Jan Pavelka, a sole trader trading as "Kinify", of SOWAVE, Royal Mail House, Terminus Terrace, Southampton SO14 3FD, England ("we", "us"). For the email correspondence described in section 5 we are the data controller under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Contact: support@kinify.co.uk.
2. What the app collects: nothing
The Kinify app does not send us anything. It has no user account, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and no third-party code that sends data anywhere. We run no servers for the app. The app only uses the internet to buy or restore Pro through Apple, and to open pages of this website when you tap a link. We do not sell, share or analyse any data about you or your family, because we never receive it.
On the App Store, Kinify's privacy label is "Data Not Collected".
3. What stays on your iPhone
Everything you add is stored only on your device, inside the app: reminders, notes, lists, meal plans, recipes, shifts, schedules, family members and family information, and important numbers. Important numbers are stored encrypted in your iPhone's Keychain and are shown only after Face ID or your iPhone passcode. Please set a passcode on your iPhone, because without one this lock cannot protect them.
The app asks iOS for these permissions only when you use the feature that needs them. You can change them at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
| Permission | Why | Where it is processed |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | To show your reminders and the morning summary | On your device (iOS local notifications) |
| Microphone and speech recognition | Only if you choose to speak instead of type | On your device only. If your iPhone cannot recognise speech on the device, voice input is turned off and you type instead. Nothing is sent to a server |
| Face ID | To unlock important numbers | On your device, by iOS. We never receive biometric data |
| Location (later version, optional) | For "remind me when I'm at the shop" | On your device only, never sent to us |
| Camera or photos (later version, optional) | To read a recipe or a letter from a photo | On your device. For letters, only the number you confirm is kept, not the photo |
You can export everything as a file, or delete everything, at any time in Settings. Deleting the app also deletes its data on that device.
4. Your own iCloud (optional)
If you turn on iCloud backup or sync, or share a list with your family (where available), the data you choose is stored in your own iCloud account and, for shared items, is visible only to the people you invite. This is provided by Apple under Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy. It is off by default. We have no access to your iCloud and cannot see, read or restore what is stored there.
5. If you email us
If you write to support@kinify.co.uk, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you put in the message. We use this only to answer you and keep a record of the conversation.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your question and handling complaints (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- How long: we delete support emails 24 months after the conversation ends, unless we need them longer to deal with a legal claim.
- Who else sees it: our email provider, Apple (iCloud Mail), stores the messages on our behalf. We never sell or share them for marketing.
- Where: if our email provider stores messages outside the UK, it does so under safeguards recognised by UK law, such as the UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.
Please do not send us your family's sensitive details. We never need them to help you.
6. Information Apple handles
Apple processes your App Store purchase, payment, refunds and downloads under Apple's own privacy policy. We do not receive your name, email or payment details from Apple.
Apple gives developers anonymous, aggregated statistics (such as the number of downloads and sales by country). If you have chosen in your iPhone settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also give us anonymous crash reports. These do not identify you, and you can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
7. This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no external fonts or scripts. Our hosting provider, Netlify, may record technical data such as IP addresses in server logs to keep the service secure. That provider handles those logs under its own privacy policy; we do not use them.
8. Children
Kinify is designed for parents and other adults. Parents may add information about their children (for example a school timetable or allergies). That information stays on the parent's device or in their own iCloud, and we never receive it. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to be informed, and to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted, to object to our use of it, or to restrict it. In practice the only personal data we can hold is your emails to us. To use any of these rights, email support@kinify.co.uk. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how Kinify handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, for example if the app ever needed to send any data off your device, we will tell you in the app before it happens and ask for your permission where the law requires it.
